What does 3G Sunsetting mean?
3G sunsetting simply means many of the U.S.’s largest wireless carriers will be retiring their older 3G networks nationwide to create bandwidth for faster, upgraded networks. When operators like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile shut off this cellular infrastructure, 3G devices based on this network technology will no longer have a connection.
Who will be impacted?
Any customer with a device utilizing 3G cell towers. For solar specifically, this includes some monitoring devices.
What does this mean for monitoring?
To continue remotely monitoring your system, you will need to change the way that it communicates. Depending on your configuration, this may be as simple as switching to your home internet, or it could require upgrading your system’s cellular modem.

If you received an email notification, this means you do have an affected 3G monitoring device.
How do I upgrade my monitoring device?
Do I have other options?
- If you have an Enphase system, you may be able to change your configuration to a Wi-Fi connection.
- If you have a SolarEdge system, see additional information.
- If you have a Locus/AlsoEnergy monitoring device, a new meter is required.
What does this mean for my SRECs?
If you choose not to modify or upgrade your system’s communication method, it will impact your ability to report SRECs (where eligible). Without monthly production data, we are unable to report your production to the appropriate SREC authority. Therefore, you will be unable to generate and sell SRECs.
Neither your SREC Reporting Agency nor Omnidian will be responsible for the loss of SRECs due to unreported solar production.
